Saxon Chevauxlegers "Prinz Carl"

A beautiful Sash-and-Saber standard bearer is galloping into this image above. It is the first Chevauxlegers regiment I do for the Saxon cavalry. It is so particular because of their green coats which should be in a special "parrot green". No source is showing that color exactly, I found only a dark forest green representing their coats. I prefer this special, fancy green which gives a good contrast to the red turnbacks.
I wish a merry christmas to everybody!

  9. I must agree, these look terrific. Artists must always strike a balance with uniforms of trying to get it right but erring on the side of what looks good - we are indulging in a visual not a cerebral exercise after all. Much looking forward to seeing what delights you will give us in 2015

    1. Indeed, Chris, the admiration to the colors and the esthetics of the serial effect by painting repetitive figures make our hobby so delightful. It is something visual and artistic! Thank you for this comment, again.
My best wishes for you and yours!

  11. Beautiful unit and painting. It seems the "Parrot Green" of the Austrian Napoleonic era may have been a very, very yellow shade - almost more yellow than green. Who knows if that applied to the Saxons, and decades earlier? Regardless, the hue chosen looks ausgezeichnet!
