French Gardes du Corps, 3me Compagnie, sculpted by Steve Barber

Finally, after more than one year, I could find the time to paint this fantastic sculpts by Steve Barber, which I commissioned at his studio. I painted them as the Garden du Corps du Roe with the yellow flags, so it's the third Compagnie. A fantastic experience having his own commissioned figures and to paint them then. The figures come with separate arms, so you can paint them easily and in short phases, which is quite comfortable, if you don't have the time to paint 5-6 hours without a break. I confess, that I invested the last day 6 hours to finish the paint job, base them and making the grass, pigments and dust .. It's a great joy to have them and I plan already a new commission at Steve..

New sculpt by Steve Barber: French trooper of the Gardes du Roi and Gendarmerie

I am very proud to present my first own 40mm commission at the wonderful studio of the marvelous sculptor Steve Barber. I know his figures from the former series "The 3 Musketeers", which he did wonderfully and I bought the whole series. Since I saw on Carmen´s Painting Blog his 40mm Samurais, I decided to ask him for sculpting me the French troops "en cheval": It is a basic sculpt for all French of the "Maison du Roi", eg. the Gendarmes, the Gardes du Corps and others.
I can paint them with the classic red coats, as Scottish Gendarmes, as Gendarmes de la Reine or as all the Guards with the magic blue coats.
I wait with impatience, you can imagine...
But it takes a while for a master mould, and then it goes to the mass production.
Now we are discussing on a trumpeter and an officer...

You can order soon this figure with horse at Steve´s Homepage: link

Gardes françaises and their grumpy general

Now, the wonderful Trident miniatures of the French Guards are finished. A brave and victorious elite regiment, as everybody knows after the battle of Fontenoy, and now ready for duty in our summer battle first weekend in July.
It´s a rarely seen range of Trident, but each figure is a masterpiece and also a challenge to paint - including the parts to glue. But it worths the effort.
I am thinking on doing the - identical uniforms - of the Swiss Guards, which had the inverse colors.

And here comes the grumpy Monsieur le général with his apanage. He even dismounted of his horse to lead the lame infanterists.  Fortunately, he has someone who cares on his horse.
The figures are Trident (general, standard), Sash&Saber, Irregular Miniatures and Manske.

France Cavalry Berry

The French are preparing for our summer battle this year for a bad render-vous with the Prussians. Last battle they lost against Frederick and the hunger of vengeance is big. The regiment of the Duc de Berry has beautiful colors and is one of the Gentleman regiment of the King. I hope they will fight well...
Wonderful miniatures of Sash&Saber...

France: Regiment Champagne

Finished now the long silence on my blog for almost 3 months, dued to professional, daily work, which absorbed all the energy for painting miniatures.
Here I have my second regiment, coming out of the fabulous Trident manufacturers, the French of the FIW and SYW range, painted as the old regiment de Champagne. I agree, that the homogenous white coats, trousers and gaiters are a little bit boring to paint, but the typical cut of them are nice and also to make one of the oldest and traditional regiments of the French army.
Enjoy the pictures, I will let follow some more post in the near future.

General Montcalm and the Regiment Chartres

The French brigades got some reinforcements, now led by General Montcalm, a magnificent miniature of Trident. Even if Monsieur le General fought mostly in Northern America, I could´t resist to order him to place him on the peak of this beautiful Regiment of French Musketeers, also Trident.
I painted them as Chartres.

The figures are build of several parts to assemble - so you are free to change and turn heads.
